I took a nap yesterday. When I woke up, I laid in bed and tried to convince myself to get up and do something, but it was a Sunday afternoon and that always makes it hard to do anything productive. As I tried to convince myself to get up, I fell back asleep and into a dream.
There was a man who had murdered several people. Somehow, my cousin and I found out and went to a friend's house to tell them about it and try to figure out what to do there. The friend was a random guy who once gave me a ride from the bus station to my hostel in Nicaragua. He apparently owned a business setting up internet connections for people. While we were there, the murderer called him and asked about setting up an internet connection.
Somehow, we knew that this would help the murderer hide his crimes, but we were terrified for our own lives and our friend went along with it casually. He left in his car to go set up an internet connection for a murderer and my cousin and I decided to go back to where we were staying that night.
We were staying at the school where I worked, but the room we were in was the closet of my old room in my parents' house and the rest of the room was a really nice inside pool and the Ferris wheel that's at the mall near my apartment. One of the teachers was there, and had opened up the pool and Ferris wheel for the wife and children of the murderer. We realized that this was how he got away with it without his family finding out: he sent them to swim and play.
For whatever reason, we then forgot about the murderer and decided to join the family in the pool since it wasn't normally open. For a brief moment, we were upset and worried because all of our stuff was under a couple feet of water, but in the next moment, the water was forgotten and everything was dry. However, I had a hard time finding my swim suit.
I also had a hard time changing into my swim suit because several men from the school kept walking in and talking to me while I was changing, seemingly oblivious to the fact that I was covering myself as I continued struggling to find my swim suit and then get into it while trying to hide myself. I think my cousin had already gotten into the water by then.
When I finally had myself together, I ran and jumped into the water without hesitation. I like to get to the bottom of the pool and launch myself back up to the surface. As per usual, I had my nose plugged because I'm one of those people that has to plug their nose when going underwater.
As I sank deeper and deeper into the pool, I realized that I had not taken a breath before jumping in. So, I loosened the grip on my nose and tentatively inhaled. But it wasn't enough air, so I did it several more times, taking in small amounts of air every time.
I desperately reached down with my feet to touch the bottom to get myself back up to the surface because I knew I was running out of air and I was confused as to how I could be taking in air and was also becoming convinced that I was actually breathing in water and was therefore getting increasingly panicked.
At last, I sprung awake and out of the dream, but it didn't end there. I still couldn't breath and felt like there was water in my lungs. I had to turn onto my side and gasp for air as I coughed until my roommate called to me from the other room, asking if I was okay. Eventually, I was able to breath normally. I can honestly say that I have never had a dream follow me into the waking world physically like that before.
